Dr. Ruth Morehouse

Ruth MorehouseRuth Morehouse is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified sex therapist (awarded Diplomat status in recognition of her extensive professional experience). She brings a wealth of clinical expertise to her position as Co-Director of the Marriage and Family Health Center (MFHC).

Since her dissertation research on marital adjustment, Dr. Ruth has maintained a keen interest in working with couples and families. She has a passion for helping people develop stronger relationships with themselves and important people in their lives. The numerous leadership positions Dr. Ruth has occupied, together with years of clinical experience, make her the perfect person to train and inspire other mental health professionals.

Dr. Ruth previously spent ten years as Director of Inpatient and Outpatient Psychological Services at a large inpatient/outpatient family-centered psychiatric facility in New Orleans. She developed and directed their comprehensive Women's Program, which specialized in treating severe eating disorders, sexual abuse, relationship problems and other women's issues. Prior to that, she took on an imposing task as the principal of an alternative school for troubled adolescents run by the New Orleans School Board. And in her spare time, she helped create an innovative Women's Depression Project serving under-privileged women in New Orleans.

Dr. Ruth has also applied her psychological acumen to the business and organizational world. She co-developed and managed a company providing psychological assessment and consultation to regional power and utility companies. She has also been a consultant for government agencies, training organizations on a wide variety of topics including sexual harassment, team building, leadership development, and empowering women in corporations.

At the Marriage and Family Health Center, Dr. Ruth conducts Crucible® Intensive Therapy sessions with couples from around the world. She is a seasoned therapist with expertise in a wide range of areas including sexual difficulties, recovery from affairs, depression and anxiety, step-parenting issues, overcoming psychological trauma and dealing with the impact of acute  and chronic illness. Ruth co-leads the Passionate Marriage® Couples Retreats and Couples Enrichment Weekends. She created the Crucible Women's Retreats in 1995, and she’s been conducting them ever since.

Dr. Ruth is much sought after as a speaker and has presented at international professional meetings. She enjoys conducting workshops and training on a variety of topics, including male and female sexual problems, enhancing sexual potential, and sex and aging. She’s also great at helping therapists develop their natural abilities and grow beyond their limitations. But Ruth’s special expertise lies in doing and teaching the Crucible Approach. She has years of experience conducting training workshops around the world, including Singapore, Denmark, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Slovenia and the Netherlands. Ruth also conducts ongoing case consultation groups, in which therapists across the country refine their clinical skills with complex cases.

Dr. Morehouse is a member of the American Psychological Association and also belongs to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the American Family Therapy Academy, the International Family Therapy Academy, and the American Association of Sex Educators, Councilors, and Therapists.

Despite her demanding professional activities, Dr. Ruth maintains her commitment to active involvement in her community. Ruth has a passion for social service and promoting the arts. Her recent activities include serving as board member and then as president of the Board of Directors of the Center for the Arts Evergreen. She also served on the Executive Board of Leadership Evergreen, an organization training local residents to become leaders in the community. Ruth is also an active Rotarian. She recently stepped down as President of the Rotary Club of Conifer, and served on the Board of Directors of the Conifer Foundation. Her passion for helping people develop their potential led her to spent three years at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Summer Conference, where she guided adolescents to develop leadership skills and believe in their ability to change the world.
